Rods Food- Frozen Pods- Reef Chili
mysis, marine snow and cylcopeeze
love the marine snow and so do my corals
I also feed mine, Ive tried all the differnt drops and additives and really have never found any that showed true promise, Although ive never tried Rogers food it does look interesting as I use to also make my own by going to Publix buying seafood and then adding a few things to it, grinding it up in my wifes blender, freezing it in ziploc bags and my fish and corals loved it. With that said has anyone tried Rogers food???
max2000, i do the same thing, except i havent told my gf that i use the blender ;)!!!!
raw shrimp, octopus, scallops, fish (silversides), nori, selcom, brocolli, cyclopeeze, phyto/zoo plankton....everybody goes crazy for it.
also using reef snow...
i like feedin my tank! :)
I also blend a baby carrot of 2 in the mix of junk when I mix my own and the fish and corals love it.
cyclo, rotifers, mysis, phyto, shrimp, silver sides and the little guys love it! lol
Rogger's Reef Food
Well, I have to admit, only Scott, my best friend(who doesn't care), and my girl friend(who only cares because it takes me so long to do, and I pay more attention to my tank than her...lol) know my "secret brew" so far, but I guess I will post it in case anyone else would like to try something new...I'm the kind of person who likes to try new things now and again because there is always new stuff coming out, and if I try somethign new and get good results, I keep it...If not, I go back to my normal routine. I'm not sure if anyone will be interested since most people do tend to do their own things, and once they find something they like, they tend to stick to it, but I have seen great growth and coloration with my mixes...So here's my 2 cents...
Every night, or every other night (depending on my mood and state of consciousness...hah), I mix several liquid foods. I know so many people have shied away from Kent Marine; I guess because it's "old school", and therefore people see it as out dated(and I know there are better things out there), but I have used it all my life (ok, I will only be 25 on Nov 21st, but I've been doing this since I was like 6 or 7 and have had MANY tanks in that time). Anyhow, regardless of what liquid suspension I use, I ALWAYS use Coral Accel. It's like coral crack...But in a good way...lol! I've done some tests, and when I just use the other foods, and no Coral Accel, my growth pretty much slows to a near halt! I mean, considering the speed of growth WITH the Accel, I guess the slow rate is probably faster than most, but I'm used to things blowing up with the Accel, so when I see a frag of zoas go from two polyps to 10 polyps in about two weeks, and then I take the Coral Accel out of my mix for two weeks, and only about two polyps pop up over a week, I get mad! Hah!
So, I digress (for those who know me, I do that A LOT...Cabin fever due to back injury...Please be patient. lol). So back to my mix...Coral Accel (2-3 capfuls), Chromaplex, Zooplex, Microvert, and PhytoChrom - Color-Enhancing Phytoplankton 1-30 micron, and PhytoGold-M - Golden Phytoplankton (Medium) 8-20 micron...I have a 125 mixed reef, and I target feed. With my fuge and sump, I estimate my total volume is around 150 gallons give or take, so I dose according to the directions based on size of tank and bioload. So depending on the night and what colors/corals I would like to focus on, I mix a capful or two of another 3-4 of the liquids I have listed. Also, every week or two I add some Coral Vibrance, but the liquid suspensions combined with the Coral Accel have been giving me incredible results. I am going to be trying Roggers Food as well. They sell it at my fave store where all my buddies work. It's kinda far from where I live, and most days my back doesn't allow me to drive...But once I get out there, or one of my buddies can bring me some, I will post my results. From what Mastermind, and everyone else who uses it says, it's great stuff. Hopefully I have positive results to share! Again, sorry for the novel! Happy reefing!

DT'S when i can get it. live phyto plankton, marine snow and, brine srimp eggs.
Hey ReefSurgeon, thanks for the info. Can you tell me exactly what brands each of the ingredients you mentioned is from so I can research them a little more and see who carries them?
Thanks,
Santiago
I have been trying out that Reef Chili stuff, but only for the last 2 weeks, so it is hard to tell any results yet
hey santiago. Coral Accel, Chromaplex, Zooplex, and Microvert are all from kent marine. the others are all brightwell products. brightwell is a "new" company, but it is just one of the guys from Kent who broke away to make is own line of stuff. it's pretty much the same as Kent products, just more expensive, with more "size and color" options to specify...and the bottles are prettier! haha! but i have been using those because i wanted to try them out, and just haven't run out yet. i am not sure i will get all the brightwells again...possibly the phytogold because i do think that my lemon glaciers and blue hornets have benefited from that one as far as having their yellows color up really bright, really fast...but it could just be from the kent chromaplex or mircovert too. kent is "old school" acording to a lot of people, but IMO, they have been around FOREVER, and still offer a VERY high quality line of products for half the cost of newer brands. let me know if that helped. sorry i've been MIA for a bit. rents were in town for the weekend, and am feeling ill past couple days. talk to yall soon! happy reefing! -Ash
I believe in feeding the tank as a system. Yes, that does include the addition of coral foods as well as fish foods. Remembering that the source of the energy in the wild in ATP production comes from the sun originally and filters through the system Just like in the wild I start with phyto plankton. I am currently producing four separate species all for different reasons. I also feed a dried mix of rotifers, daphnia, brine, spirulina and blood worms. The fishes themselves get a wide assortment of seafood meat items along with nori, and cyclopeeze. Some of the corals wil eat the larger meat items left over from the fish as well.
When I have extra BBS and Rotifers; I feed them straight to the tanks.
Chris
I use Reef Chili, Coral Frenzy, Rods food, and Cyclopeze. I like them all!

I have ice cubes trays that I add clams, mysis, squid, octopus, and mussels to.
Also, I take a little of all of those and put it in a blender and make a paste.
I add some cylcopeeze and thats my food for the fish and the corals.
When I feed the tank, I melt a cube and also add some vitamins, and phytoplankton.
Has anyone ever used Reef nutrition's Oyster Feast? Ive always had great results and growth using it. Zoas grow about three a week and sps "slow growers" such as ponape birds does greater than a quarter inch a month on all branches. Acro's do better and spread well to the rocks. I love it and I just pour 15 ml a day into the main pump intake from the sump at moon light time for a 200 gal mixed reef. Its perfect because when Im away from home my girl can take care of the tank no problem. Some of the spectra dry food I feed the fish sometimes also falls into the shrooms and polyps. But overall its just the oyster feast. Highly recommended. Never have had growth or nutrient issues with both sps and lps in the same reef.
