WTT: 45g SUMP with Refugium

saintperez 62 posts

So I'm in need of a new skimmer and it seems that all the good skimmers for my tank are 1/2" too big for my sump. SO I need to upgrade it to a 55g wich I believe is 15" wide. SO if anyone in S. FL. has a standard 55g tank that is looking for a 45g sump. Let me know. The sump I have is drilled in the center back with a 2" bulkhead. It has three baffles for bubble trap and has a generous fuge area with eggcrate for the overflow at the top to keep large objects like snails in. It's been in my stand now for a few months.

how much can I buy it off you for....I have nothing really to trade but would love to purchase it from you. Thanks...

Turns out I did find a skimmer that would work for me, the MSX 250A. Fit's just right supposedly. Will be getting it in a few days. If it doesn't fit then after I throw a kunipsh$t, I will contact you to sell it to you. I'd say around $100 would be fair. It's drilled in the middle for the return. It just sucks because it took a whole day to get the old wet/dry out and the new sump in. I'd hate to have to do it all again if I don't have to.

i will give you 50 bucks above asking just to entice you to sell, can you take pics of the sump man. Its got a fuge area in it right? does it have different colored baffles to keep the light out?

nevermind man, i didnt read as well as i thought......consider it man, i would take your skimmer with the pump for 180, your sump for 150, and another pump for whatever we decide....thanks man....

Sounds like a good proposition. Where you located?

Also How much room do you have in your stand for a sump? I could make one with a 55 I have laying around. I couldn't use it because I needed the extra space for a calcium reactor and a few other things.

i dont have any room in my stand. it would sit to the side of my tank in a cabinet. Also, what are you saying you could do with the 55 gal? Are you saying you could build a sump/refugium out of it? Also, does the refugium have a light? thanks Saint. I am located in the Aventura area....Did you make or purchase this sump by the way....thanks Saint.....

i think using a 55 gal would be cool if it is made with certain specifications......Lastly, does the sump have a sock filter....?

saintperez 62 posts

Hey man, can have one for your with these types of baffles and fuge out of a standard 55g tank. I can build this on Saturday. Yes it could have a built in filter sock holder but I would suggest against it because from my experience, I'm always moving my sock out of the way and changing locations.

I ended up just using a spring clip holding the sock and having the return tube pushed into it.

that sounds good....I like that idea....does the 55 gal have a light? thanks man...

For light I recommend what I have in my system because cheato grows like crazy with it. It's a 5500K energy saver bulb on a clip on lamp from Home Depot. I have the light clipped on to a brace under my tank. So to answer your question no, It's just the sump.

hey saint!  got the exact same light for my fuge.  totally behind you on that recommendation to anyone with a fuge.  low heat, low energy consumption, equal and sometimes MORE output than other bulbs, lasts FOREVER, and cheap as heck to boot!  i think the energy saver bulb i have is the daylight 6500k though.  when i was looking for a light for my fuge (since i had never kept a fuge before), i had no idea what to get.  everyone used something different...after A LOT of research, the clip on lamp with the energy saver bulb was apparently the best option, and it sure as heck was the cheapest!  been up and running for almost a year now and my cheato grows like mad, and i can't keep the acrylic clean from coralline for more than a few days!  even my cheato has coralline growing on it.  have you ever had that happen to your cheato?  mine is still SUPER green and healthy, but it can't float anymore cause the coralline is weighing it down.  i just grab it and turn it a few times a day now.  hoping it doesn't start dying off with all the coralline covering it

when can you have the 55 setup for a refugium? Lastly, can you help me set it up? thanks man....I am somewhat new at all this and could use the help....thanks......I will just buy that light from home depot......sounds like a plan.

Hey , no I wish I had more Coraline but you should be good by turning the cheato with the COraline facing down for a day or two then switch it over again etc.

, sorry I just saw this post. I willget it for you next by next weekend but will need a little $$ to get the baffles and some silicon etc. PM me and we'll work it out.

Thanks,
Santiago

OK, I'm back to square one, need to trade the 45 for a 55. The one I thought I had is cracked. If anyone is interested in a 45g sump with fuge let me know.
