a food tank?

getinpora 227 posts

take the coral you want to feed or use an accel on out of you display tank and place it in a 20 gal  tank and feed heavy leave it in a day maybe then place it back. so you dont dirty you display. changing water in a 20 would be alot cheaper. i know you cant do it with all your corals but small non attached or new or fresh frags. what do you think of that? please respond with a comment

heya.  that's actually sounds good in theory, but like you said, you could really only do it in a practical manor with small frags...so having a 20 gallon frag tank would kind of serve the same purpose, no?  just my opinion.  i just target feed.  it works wonders for me...i mix coral accel with other foods almost every night.  colors are insane, and so is growth on all corals.  the problem you get with moving a frag back and forth is that if you want it to eventually encrust the rock you have it on/near, it won't be able to do so.  that's why i hate my damn turbo snails!!!  bastards always knock stuff over!  lol!

it really is a good idea.  i just got one of these  http://www.aquacave.com/detail.aspx?ID=864  i am planning on putting some Fiji Mud(that's the substrate i have in my sump refugium, and it is AWESOME) in the bottom of it, and put my frags in it so that i can keep them seperate from the rest of the tank if i need to.  i haven't put it in yet, but i think that if you blocked off the holes and unplugged the pump, you could probably do the same type of thing that you were suggesting, and THIS way, you would be able to have the small corals or frags IN the "feeding tank", and STILL have them in your MAIN tank's water...less mess, less stress.  when you are finished, just empty the water you don't want, pop the coral back into the main tank, uncover the holes, turn the pump on and you still have a really cool in-tank refugium!  watcha think?

not bad at all! keeping them in the same water and able to feed heavy without polluting your display tank. Good job!
