Hey everybody. I'm Eric. Just started my very first reef tank about four weeks ago (65 gal). I had no idea what I was getting into or what I was doing, (still dont really know what I'm doing) but the tank is alive. I'm looking to get alot more stuff for it. Got any deals? I live in Cooper City, FL. I look foward to meeting everyone.
Nice to have you once you are ready send me a message ill hookk ya up

welcome home.
welcome eric! we are happy to have you! as long as you're not afraid to ask questions...even if you think they sound silly...for a first timer, NOTHING is silly...well, i take that back...when i used to work at PetWorld in Davie (back when i was in high school...2001-2003 is when i worked there...and i worked up here in orlando at a Petland...for over a year in like 2006...)the question that i could NEVER keep my cool about was... "i want to make my freshwater tank into a saltwater...so just put table salt in, right?"...forgive me, because i LOVE teaching and helping people set up new tanks...but i just COULD NOT take that question seriously! lol! OH!! and one time when i was working at Pet World (davie) some dude tried to buy the SMALLEST goldfish bowl we sold in the store (like the ones you see at carnivals) and a copperband butterfly...i hadn't bagged the fish for him, so i didn't know if maybe he had a saltwater tank and was getting the bowl for his kid or something...i was just ringing him up...but my "Reefy sense" was tingling,
so i ask him..."you're not planning on putting THAT in THERE, are you?"...
he says "yea, why the hell not? you do it with gold fish! just put tap water in the bowl and put it in...it will be fine"...
i said, "sir, first of all, it's not even very safe to do with goldfish, people just do it because goldfish are cheap, and if they die, you just get another for .29 cents...the only thing you can put in there "safely" is a betta...and second of all, THAT is a saltwater fish, and you CANNOT just use tap water and it WILL NOT be fine...i'm sorry, but i can't sell you that...".
he of course argued with me, but even though i knew i could get fired for not taking the guy's $40 and denying him the fish, i refused...well, actually they would have NEVER fired me...lol! my previous boss STILL asks me to move back down south and start working there again cause they have never been able to replace me! haha! but anyhow, after some arguing about him just putting, ONCE AGAIN, TABLE SALT, in the tap water and blah blah blah...i said "no...no...no..."...and he asked me where the bettas were...lol.
i went to the back with the copperband said "which of you boys bagged this fish??". so this lazy jerk who i couldn't stand said it was him...i'm like "maybe NEXT TIME you should actually TALK to the customer! he was planning on putting it in a goldfish bowl with tap water...he doesn't even have a tank...get your head out of your a$$, and pay attention!"...lol! he's like "oh...shit...my bad".
other than asking if table salt is ok to use for mixing salt water or trying to put a saltwater fish in a fish bowl, i am pretty much willing to answer any question you've got! lol! and also, once you have your tank cycled, send me a PM, and i will hook you up with some nice corals. lots of people on here have great stuff too! and none of us compete, so don't ever feel bad if you do business with one person and not another. we all know each other and can vouch for each other. so again, welcome to the frenzy! we are a bit crazy on here, but VERY layed back! hope you find a fun and informative place to go to from here! i'm sure you will! happy reefing!

That's funny! I actually shop at that Petworld, the one on University and Nova Dr.? The help in there definitely seems to be better than some other places I've been.
hello and welcome! glad to have you aboard.
Nice intro ash. And story!
I use table sea salt. Its better! haha jk jk
yea, that's the one i worked at for two years. and if you like that story, i have PLENTY more! people who shop at pet stores (especially fish people) are CRAZY!!! lol! like, panic button under the counter for security type crazy!! lol! but anyway, i grew up going to that Pet World. That's where my love of reef tanks all started! every saturday my dad, mom, brother and me would eat over at Lefty's...back when it was right next to petworld...and after we ate we would go over to petworld and pick out new corals and fish! the general manager, mike, has known me since i was like 6 years old. i learned a lot from him. when i asked for a job there he gave it to me on the spot. now whenever my parents go in there he asks them to tell me to move back down so i can work there. i used to work there whenever i went home for christmas break, but then i got a job up here. last time i was down south i went in to say hi. the store has changed A LOT. that was one of the most fun jobs! i cried when i had to leave and move to orlando for college! lol! i miss it! if you know mike, tell him "ashley satan" says hi! lol. he will know what you mean!
yeah, I know who he is is, but I dont "know him". But I'll tell him the next time I see him....By the way..why "Ashley satan" (you dont have to tell me) =)
