Thanks it just makes everything look dirty.  I just cleaned my 125 took everything out and cleaned it like spring cleaning a house did a 30% water change scrubbed the rocks and all, then I wake up and the darn crap is on my rocks.  lol  I know our tanks are not suppose to be clean as our house but I hate this kind of sponge. lol

i got the same stuff start growing after i took my corner overflows out and scrubbed them clean.  it's because you're scrubbing all the good stuff that breaks down the detritus normally, so that stuff grows.  i'm not sure how hard you scrubbed the rocks, but by scrubbing them, you are removing the good things.  and then doing a large water change makes it so that all that good bacteria and stuff gets sucked out of your system.  i've been using this new stuff from brightwell...i started a post on it, but haven't updated it yet...it works REALLY well...the best way i can describe what it does is an analogy...the products are microbacter and reef biofuel...and the analogy that my friend used, and it's a really good one is, it's kind of like using the stuff that you are suppose to use regularly for a septic system to keep clean and unclogged...i noticed results within the first use of both...it adds safe enzymes that help the bacteria in your tank to break down the sludge easier, and put it into a beneficial form...and the waste bioproducts are easily washed off your rocks by your powerheads (or if you want to use a pipette or turkey baster or something to blow it off the rocks), and i've also noticed that my return lines(they are clear) look like i when in and cleaned them out...my pump is running more efficiently, and my protein skimmer is working overtime because it's removing all the leftover waste since they are in a state that is much easier for the skimmer to remove.  i've been using it for a few days, and already my rocks look cleaner, the polyp extension on my stonies in INSANE (at ALL hours...not just at might), and like i said, everything right down to my return lines seem to have benefitted from the use of these products.  scrubbing liverock in an established aquarium is kind of going backwards from it being completely established because it removes the good bacteria, organisms, and the good algea(coralline).  what you are experiencing is normal since you did a full cleaning...i will post more information about microbacter and reefbiofuel when i get time to go over the whole thing...but i STRONGLY recommend it to anyone with a reeftank that whats to keep it a low nutrient and clean (CRYSTAL CLEAR WATER TOO...forgot to add that) system!  i have a VERY heavy bioload with all my corals and fish, AND i tend to overfeed...AND slack on water changes...this stuff REALLY works!  almost IMMEDIATELY!  try it out!  they are like $12.00 for a 500ml bottle each.  it's not harmful to your tank in any way because it's all natural.  if you don't see results within the first few days, well, then you can give me crap about it forever!  lol!  try it out regina...no more "spring cleaning scrubbing" your live rock...with this stuff, as long as you have a lot of flow and a good skimmer, you won't need to even consider scrubbing your rocks!  hope this helps a bit!  it kind of went off topic, but for a good reason, i hope.  lol!  happy reefing!  -Ash

I will try it, I told my room mate we really should be doing this deep of a clean because of this very thing.  clean but she hates worms, I mean I dont like them but they help us keep things clean.  I use my trukey baster daily that is a given. lol  I am weird when it comes to having a nice nice clean envirnment for my babies.
I am going to try that stuff from Brightwell thanks Ash.....

there's keeping things clean, and then there's actually CLEANING things...live rock should NEVER be "scrubbed".  turkey baster is good to remove loose detritus from the rocks so that the skimmer can take it out, but as you can see, if you SCRUB the liverock "clean", you're going to end up with a much dirtier, less stable tank.  there are creepy worms and stuff, but that just means the tank is healthy, and THEY do the cleaning.  definitely don't scrub anymore...i mean, if you have loose algea or something that you want to lightly scrub, take a toothbrush, tie or tape it to the end of your siphon hose, and lightly scrub while siphoning...but NEVER remove liverock from the tank and scrub it clean...BAD BAD joo joo!  unless you are starting up a new tank, and the rock has stuff in/on it that you don't want in your new tank (for example when i upgraded from my 45 to my 125, the rocks were COVERED with tulip anemones and anthellia...so i cut and scraped and scrubbed all the rocks that had them on it so that i wasn't introducing any of it into my tank).

anyhow, now you know it makes your tank dirtier to clean it...lol...go figure!  but i'm glad you're going to use the brightwell stuff.  my friend gave me more specific instructions about how he uses it than the bottle says...start off using the dosage for high nutrient or new tanks...you don't have a new tank, obviously, but considering you're getting a lot of detritus, AND you just scrubbed a lot of your helpful critters away, you should definitely use the dosage it says to use there for the first two weeks...

anyhow, for the microbacter, at night, after the lights are off for about a half hour(i don't think this time really matters...just after the lights go off) turn off your skimmer and turn off your powerheads.  don't pour it in any area of high flow, and don't pour it in your sump for the pump to pump it into your tank.  just pour it directly into the tank.  keep the skimmer off for about 4 hours.  you can turn your powerheads on low after about 15 miutes or so though...

then, for the reef biofuel, just pour it straight into your tank in the morning once the lights come on.  your skimmer will start going crazy pulling crap out, so keep an eye on it so it doesn't overflow.  after a day or two, take that turkey baster and blow the crap outta your rocks!  you're going to be amazed at all the crud that comes off!  and i know you said you don't keep many sps, but whatever sps you do keep, the polyp extension is going to be beautiful!

well, glad you're going to try this stuff out.  now i will have another person to talk about how awesome a product it is with! grin ttyl!  -Ash
