LED lighting

blackdogal73 7 posts

Has anybody used or seen firsthand any of the high end LED lighting systems? I've heard they are only for shallow systems, should be used as accent lighting, etc., but have never seen one myself.
I have read articles that say they have the same light output as halides, corals love them, and other good comments.

DrsFosterSmith carries some type of it, PFO Solaris went belly up, AquaIllumination....

Anybody?

i have  seen them used by one of the lfs in my neck of the wood and they are great. they normally used mH only for a few hours keep te tank lighted with blue leds high out put and their coral have great colors and healthy. but they are kind of expensive. a 4 leds strip is going  for $80 . you would need about 3-4 for a 48tank.

i bought 16 9 light strips on ebay for 80 bucks they aint the strongest bbut they add just enough to the tank and make awesome night display. The adapters were like 15 bucks and it wire up 8 of them

? Cliff, i saw the link you bought the lights from on ebay, how many strips do you have on each tank, and how much strips you tink i would need for the 92GL corner. and post some pics of the tanks with the blue led on only lets see what they look like.  I will post some pics tonigt of my 92 up and running dont really have much in there right now though.

I put up all 16 in my 155 bowfront tonight i will get some pics of the night display but on a smaller tank like yours if you want to use them i would put 16 on there will glow like crazy but i would do like 10 blues and 6 purple strips they pretty simple to cut and hard wire thats what i did to the adapters.the adapters come with like a quick connect on them but dont need them.Cost more money for the other peice to adapt lol And they have stick on already on them didnt take me know time to do it. The guy on ebay i made an offer to buy 16 at 5.00 a peice instead of 6.50 a piece. Like i said ill post u some pics tonight

Everything starts to close up when the halides go off but still puts off insane colors when they go off.

Other then the gaps of light seems to be enough for most all my corals
