something in my 75 gal tank

retang 182 posts

Okay I am mad as hell, I have had 2 lost pearly jawfish in the last 3 months.  I find them without their tails, swimmming on their sides, looks like red spots on one side.  There is a monster in my tank, any ideas?
I will find it and get it out.

well guess what the tank is going to be taken apart piece by piece because that thing isnt going to kill one more thing in my tank. Bastard anyways.  come to think that is the second jawfish, 3 anthias, 1 Goby that it killed didnt dawn on me until now there was something in there doing this.  I have a mantis in my 125 and he doesnt kill anything this one must be big.  When I get whatever thing it is I will post the picture of the killer. lol

just an idea, before taking the tank apart, try baiting  with some krill or frozen food and watch that tank see if anything bites.

get a flashlight and a cup with some food in it......put the cup against the rocks in such a way to allow things to get in, tape or glue....whichever....strings to the side of the glass, check on it at night with the flash light.......you may just have a giant bristle worm in there....a mantis probably wouldnt go for the food because it isnt live.....but maybe you can figure out a way to keep something alive in there so that if you do have a mantis, it would go in........then when they are in, you lift up fast.......this has worked for some people.......the other way is to use a clear mesh box with strings attached at the 4 corners, you place the mesh on the sand with food in the middle and you wait for something to come in the middle and you lift.......either way, keep it really dark in the room when you do this, you can even use a flashlight with a red filter on it so that it wouldnt bother the animals very much but you could see what is going on.....
